8th Grade: ACT EXPLORE

Why do students explore careers in middle school?

In 2005 the Education and Economic Development Act was written and passed by the South Carolina legislature. This implemented changes and a new vision on how our students would be planning for their futures. At the middle school level, careers are explored through classroom activities, speakers, field trips, career fairs, career assessments, newletter information, and displays organized by Mrs.Blankenship, our certified Career Development Facilitator. These activities are very important for students to develop their own ideas for careers by becoming familiar with the 16 nationally recognized career clusters. When a student registers for high school in the Spring of their 8th grade year they will work with Mrs. Blankenship and the high school counselors to develop an Individual Graduation Plan (IGP).
